BIO
Joined navy in: December 13, 1982 (acutally enlisted on June 16, 1982, and left for bootcamp on 12/13)
EAOS: December 12, 1988
Current Occupation: Mechanical Engineer
Birthplace: Binghamton, NY
First Memory upon entering boot camp: Being shouted off the bus upon arrival in Great Lakes, followed by a lengthy period of filling out forms (and continuing to be shouted at) to be "processed", and capped offÊhitting the pillow atÊ2:00 AM followed by a 5:00 AM wakeup. Welcome to bootcamp. Alternates: the first hair cut, the pass in review breakfasts.
Favorite Quote:Ê(said in unison with the most extremeÊsarcasm many times) ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE,ÊMARINES, WHAT A GREAT PLACE, WHAT A GREAT PLACE..........TO START. Alternates: Bonehead 1 (dopey book entry):Ê"Bonehead, 1984-88, FIRM!!!" Bonehead 2 (while throttleman during many midwatches): "This is my favorite time of the day (Bonehead then rubs off, and then writes a new numeral of his days to go on his hand, in front of the watch officer of course).
Fondest Memory of the navy: Hanging out with Gumby, Pest, Gadget, Baby CRAO, Avery Union (and maybe some others I'm forgetting) at a polo club in Singapore, after being vouched for entrance by a Ausy filmmaker whose residence was the Raffles Hotel.ÊWe all enjoyed an afternoon filled with lots of beer drinking,Êan evening of aÊharrowing experience as a passenger of an extremely drunk individual (the Ausy filmmaker), a good dinner at a chinese restaurant, and a fight between Gumby and Avery Union upon return to the hotel (which was also the Raffles).
Least Fondest:ÊFour way tie:Ê(1) Getting off the boat for one evening in Perth, Australia, never to get off the remaining 4 days, and getting paid back with 2 extra days in PI (oh boy), (2) getting the stomach flu in Italy, the symptoms of which took full effect upon arrival in Nice (which was my only overnight stay in Europe), and (3) receiving a dear john letter from my first wife with one month to go on the 1986 westpac, (4) the death of Joe Basil.
Favorite novel: Tie: The Black Dahlia,Êas well as my favorite fiction book:ÊCase Closed, by Gerald Posner (this is a dig directed at Gumby)
Most admired person: Very few people I actually admired in the Navy (although the two plant losers are great guys).
Least admired person: This is a tie between a long list of people: Buttcrust, Fat and Sweaty,ÊMCheif Deville, Chief Wiley (slinky), the Reactor officer in 1986-88.
Favorite stripper at Larry's Villa and why: The sripper that Gumby and I saw when we entered the joint when I was in Vegas for a class in March 2003. This woman had to have weighed 200 pounds. There was a lot wiggling flesh with each stride, it took a high amount of restraint to not barf. It was what fat Tuesday was all about.
My favorite funny moment: When Fluf wailed on Uncle Ben (Rice) after Uncle Ben spayed a water filled compressed air hose in Fluf's face, after Uncle Ben was enticed into doing it from about 6-7 losers, with the promise we would all pull Fluf off him (we didn't).
